On Our Way to La Décima!

La clave para pasar una buena noche es simple: buenos tragos, buenos amigos y The Beachers. 

Anteanoche fue el primer fundraiser de la Décima Bienal Centroamericana, que desde sus inicios en 1998 ha sido gestionada por parte de Panamá por Tía Carmen Alemán Healy (Grupo Arteconsult y FundAHrte) y la Fundación Fernández Pirla. 

Con una subasta silenciosa con piezas de artistas como Cisco Merel, Fernando Toledo, Gabriela Esplá, Sandra Eleta, Anna Carolina Gelabert, Santiago Cruz, y muchos más, un súper atinado monólogo del genio Jaguar Clandestino y para finalizar los increíbles tunes calipsos de los Beachers que en serio nos pusieron a TODOS a bailar. Fue una noche mágica, la vibra que circulaba sobre nosotros como una nube era burbujeante y contagiosa, de verdad espero que más noches como esta se repitan.

Wednesday night was the witness of the first fundraising party on our way to the Tenth Central American Biennale, which from its beginnings has been handled by Carmen Alemán Healy from Grupo Arteconsult and FundAHrte, and the Fernández Pirla Foundation. 

With a silent auction with pieces by artists like Cisco Merel, Fernando Toledo, Gabriela Esplá, Sandra Eleta, Anna Carolina Gelabert, Santiago Cruz and many more, a right-on-the-spot monologue by the master of words Jaguar Clandestino, and to end things rights, the calypso tunes of The Beachers. It was truly a magical night, the vibe that hovered above us like a cloud was bubbly and contagious, I really hope night like that would repeat.

We're Back Bitches!

Después de dos meses de ausencia, estoy de vuelta. No, no fui raptado por la FARC; no, no me fui de peregrinaje por el Camino de Santiago, he estado trabajando como esclavo. Como pueden comprender, manejar una revista mensual no es nada fácil, a eso agréguenle todos los trabajos alternos que el blog atrae y ni se diga de la vida social/trabajo (sí, por enésima vez, mantener una vida social activa ES parte del trabajo), como dice Lily Allen: “it is hard out here for a bitch”.

Ahorita mismo estoy en New York City (aka Best City in the World) reportando New York Fashion Week (lo cual verán en los próximos blog posts así que estén atentos y atentas) pero no quiero dejar pasar el tiempo y así mostrarles dos eventos súper cool que tuvieron lugar la semana pasada en Panamá; en este post me voy a centrar en el Aniversario/Comeback de Félix B. Maduro en Multiplaza, después de una temporada, esta tienda ícono en Panamá abrió de nuevo todas sus puertas para que ahora todos tengamos un mejor shopping, aquí les dejo unas fotos del evento :D

After two months of dreadful absence, I’m fucking back. No, I was not kidnapped by the Italian mafia; no, I wasn’t doing a life-changing spiritual retire with the Himalayan monks; I was working like a beast. As you may understand, editing a monthly print publication is no joke, add to that all of the blog’s side projects and gigs AND the social life (which is OBVS part of the job of being a blogger/editor), bottom’s line, just like my girl/spirit animal Lily Allen once said: it’s fucking hard out here for a bitch.

Right now I’m in New York City (aka Best City Ever) covering #NYFW (I know, keep up with me and the Kardashians using the hashtag #FashionGlobeTrotter everywhere, even in your bathroom) but I didn’t want time to pass before sharing with you one of the main events of last week: the Anniversary/Comeback of Felix B. Maduro, one of the most iconic stores here in Panama, here are all the pictures :D

Say Hello From Up In Here!

Si hay algo que siempre había querido hacer en mi vida: ser host de algo. No me importaba si era de un baile típico en la Feria de la Naranja de Penonomé, un cumpleaños ajeno o un talk show a lo Chelsea Lately (I fucking love Chelsea Handler), ser host debe ser una de las profesiones más cools de todo el planeta, asi que cuando Coach me propuso ser el anfitrión del lanzamiento de su última colección de zapatos dije sí más rápido de lo que me acabo un shot de tequila.

Una tarde súper íntima con stylists, bloggers y personalidades relacionadas al micro-mundo de la moda panameña fue la forma perfecta de que todos pudiéramos salir con aunque sea un par nuevo de zapatos (hay gente que salió con dos, ajá!). Lo más guay de todo fue el hashtag que utilizamos para la ocasión: #CoachFromAbove, que nació de la manía que tenemos todos los Instagrammers de compartir nuestros zapatos del día desde la comodidad de ... nuestras caras? (no me digan que no lo han hecho porque no les creo ni el –A)

Los dejo entonces con fotitos del evento y de los zapatos de la colección, que decidí poner encima de las fotos de algunos de mis lugares favoritos de New York ;)

If there’s something I always wanted to do in my life was hosting something. Whether it was someone else’s bar mitzvah, a welcome home party for someone we both do not know or a talking show like Chelsea Lately (I really love Chelsea Handler); being host of something gets to the core of everything I look for in life, so it wasn’t a matter of doubt when Coach asked me to host the launch of their new show collection.

A very intimate and relaxed evening with stylists, fellow bloggers and personalities from the micro-world of Panamanian fashion was the perfect way for everyone to try on shoes, talk about who’s gotten fatter or thinner, and sip delicious cocktails made with Perrier. The best thing was the hashtag used for the afternoon: #CoachFromAbove, inspired by our manic obsession of documenting our outfits and shoes of the day from the closeness of our ... faces? (Don’t tell me you haven’t snapped one of those Instagram pics because you know you’d be lying).

So, I’m gonna shut my mouth and leave you with some of the photos from the event and my favorite shoes from the collection, which I put against some of my favorite NY places ;)

My Style Journal: Chapter #3

“¿Cómo harán las mujeres para mantener sus diarios actualizados? “, esto es algo que me he preguntado desde que en mis años mozos (*cough cough* I’m turning 22 soon) siempre agarraba mis cuadernos sobrantes o las materias que no usaba en mis cuadernos Bright de 5 materias que mi mamá me compraba al inicio del año escolar (siempre de color morado).

Después de 6 años sigo haciéndome la misma pregunta y después de 6 años pueden ver que con todo y que cambié mi cuaderno por un ordenador sigo luchando por tener un diario al pie de la fecha.

En el tercer capítulo de My Style Journal les comparto mi 24 de abril del 2014, un día que con todo y que fue súper hectic, lo disfrute mucho entre amigos, Chanel y lentejuelas (la fórmula de las Chicas Superpoderosas se queda chiquita al lado de ésta).

“How do women keep their journals updated?”, I have asked myself since I was a teenager who was into reggeaton (I blame my classmates for my poor life choices and deplorable music taste). Even during those years I always struggled (the struggle has always been real) to keep my life focused in paper, it didn’t matter if it was an actual diary or just a multi-subject notebook that my mom bought me for school.

Now, after 6 years, I keep asking myself the same BS, “how do girls manage to always have time to write down their sorrows and one night stands in their journals!?”; I haven’t been answered.

So now, in this new tryout to keep My Style Journal alive, I share with y’all my April 24^th; a day that was pretty fucking hectic but at the same time fortuitous thanks to three main ingredients that send the PowerPuff Girls formula to bite the dust: good friends, Chanel and drinks.

Off To The Polo Tournament...

El verano panameño es fácil de disfrutar de mil y un maneras. Es cierto que en este país disfrutamos de un clima quasi-veraniego durante todo el año pero solo es durante esta época del año que disfrutamos de la brisa innegable, de los atardeceres más bellos y de los eventos al aire libre con open bar ;)

Normalmente la agenda social panameña incluye festivales musicales, culturales, exposiciones de arte, etc., pero esta vez un evento muy no tradicional en nuestro país se llevó la atención de muchos: el Millenia Polo Tournament by Hackett London.

No ajeno al Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic que se celebra en Manhattan comencé a buscar en mi clóset de manera de no tener un sartorial faux-pas, creo que me fue bien, sobre todo porque al día siguiente no había ni seña de la señorita llamada “Resaca”;)

In vino veritas, PTY’s summer is easy to enjoy. You may say “Hey dude, you have summer all year long” but it’s only during these days of the years when you can lean back and feel the breeze caress your unclog pores while you stare at the most beautiful sunsets, all featuring the most exciting open bars in town.

Normally, the Panamanian social agenda includes everything from music festival, film screening in public places, art exhibits, cultural momentums, etc., but this year an event stole a lot of the spotlight for being the perfect getaway for the chic-seekers and culturally hunger: the Millenia Polo Tournament by Hackett London.

Used to see the celebrities and socialites attend the everlasting-oh-so-chic Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic that’s held at Manhattan I started searching for outfit inspiration in order to not commit a sartorial faux-pas; I think I did well, at least my not so dear friend, Hangover, didn’t make an appearance the next day ;)

 Enero marca una fecha muy importante para mi: el regreso mis series favoritas y el comienzo de nuevos shows de televisión que me tendrán pegado a la pantalla de mi laptop durante el año. Muchas de estas series han tomado una pausa por las fiestas de fin de año pero también hay otras que se han desaparecido por mucho más tiempo.

Cuando me acercaba más al 2014 tenía dos cosas en mente: “ya falta menos para que regrese Girls” y “ya falta menos para que estrene Looking”; si no saben de que hablo permítanme refrescar su gris vida con un poco de color televisivo gracias a las mentes maestras de HBO.

January’s arrival marks something very important in my calendar: the Prodigal Son-ish return of my favorite TV shows. Some of them were taking a holiday break, but others were just making me more anxious since being out of the scene for 6 months is what they usually do for their vacations.

Last year, every single day that passed meant that I was getting closer to: 1) the return of HBO’s Girls and 2) the premiere of Looking, HBO’s new baby, or should I say boy toy? If you are not fully aware of what I’m talking about let me bring some colors and clarity to your sad, grey and blurry life.

Welcome to the Chamber of Secrets

Finalmente la Cámara de los Secretos ha sido abierta.

El jueves pasado fui a la pre-apertura de una de las tiendas más esperadas por los y las panameñas, Forever 21. La apertura a todo público fue hoy sábado en la mañana y ya para cuando estén leyendo este blog post lo más probable es que se hayan vuelto locos o locas en la nueva tienda, y no las o los culpo, los precios están súper buenos y como todos sabíamos, es ropa que esta muy actualizada con lo que son las tendencias gringas, lo único malo es que no ha llegado la ropa de hombre pero por ahí escuché que llegará en más o menos 4 meses.

Siendo Forever 21 una tienda de fast-fashion lo único que les recomiendo es que sean muy sabios al comprar, puede que sea un arma de doble filo: ropa chévere a buenos precios, pero también estoy seguro que ese momento en que encuentras a alguien vistiendo lo mismo que tú estará pasando más a menudo y nadie quiere eso así que no sean fashion victims y compren con inteligencia.

No dejemos que el basilisco nos coma.

The Chamber of Secrets has been finally opened.

Last Thursday I was invited to the pre-opening party of the new Forever 21 store in Multiplaza. I got some cool stuff like a pullover and a bunch of accessories. By now you have probably visited the store since the official opening was this morning. By this time also you probably splurged a lot of money and I don’t blame you, we all love some Forever 21 in our lives but I just want to advice everyone who’s reading this to be careful, fast-fashion can be a double-edge sword, none of us want that oh-someone’s-wearing-the-same-shit-as-me moment nor be a fashion victim so shop intelligently. Do not let the basilisk fuck you over.

#LacosteChallenge

Si hace un mes me hubieras preguntado lo que pensaba sobre Lacoste probablemente te hubiera respondido con dos cosas: tenis & polos. Y digo, las dos cosas están en lo correcto pero es como decir que en la Arrocha sólo venden medicinas y revistas cuando sabemos que podemos encontrar cosas tan específicas como “Kótex para Chihuahas oriundos de Nicaragua con ojos verdes”.

Hace poco la gente de Lacoste, con la que he estado en contacto ya que estaré asistiendo a su desfile y a su fiesta durante New York Fashion Week este Septiembre, me invitó a lo que sonaba como un reto sacado de Project Runway.

#LacosteChallenge consistía de tres bloggers masculinos: Antonio (de quien me robé estas fotos), Luigi & yo. En el challenge teníamos que armar tres looks usando artículos de la tienda solamente (máx 4 items por look) y también .... s que tendido con dos cosas: tenmmbi Heidi, Michael & Nina. Lamentablemente no gane, me invitespondido con dos cosas: tennis & p*drumrolls* MODELARLOS.

En mi humilde intento de ser Clemént Chaubernaud armé los looks y me dejé juzgar por los que en mi mente eran Heidi, Michael & Nina. Lamentablemente no gané pero ¡hey! Terminé la noche con una nueva gorra y también sabiendo que Lacoste es mucho más que tenia & polos ;)

If you had asked me a couple of weeks ago what I thought about Lacoste I would have probably answered you with two things: tennis & polo shirts. And I mean, none of those things are wrong, Lacoste is a Brand based on tennis wear & polo shirts are their key item & always will be but it’s not safe to limit Lacoste’s range like that, it’s like saying that Wallgreens is only a place where you can buy medicines & condoms by the cashier when you know you can find a whole lotta items there (I mean, Wallgreens is a place where you could maybe find true love guys).

So last week the Lacoste PTY team approached me to participate in the #LacosteChallenge which was a blogger based challenge that consisted of three male bloggers: Antonio (the legal owner of these photos, I’m just illegally using them), Luigi & me. We had to build 3 looks with no more than 4 items & .... drumrolls MODEL THEM!

In my humble attempt to be Clement Chaubernaud I modeled my three looks along with Luigi & Antonio in front of a though judging panel that in my mind was a softer version of Heidi, Michael & Nina. Sadly I didn’t win but hey! I ended up with a new cap & with the knowledge that Lacoste is much more than tennis wear & polo shirts ;)

Professions & Assumptions

Es muy difícil definir una profesión cuando tienes tantos gustos, fotógrafo, diseñador gráfico, visual merchandiser, etc, pero hay un hobbie que con el tiempo he llegado a considerar un trabajo, fiestero. 

Aunque no lo crean es super difícil mantenerse en pie después de una semana de fiesta y aún tener que terminar los deberes de los otros trabajos y de la universidad, pero se hace lo que se puede!

La fiesta se ha intensificado ahora que las marcas han comenzado a abrir sus tiendas en el área nueva de Multiplaza, Desigual por ejemplo, es una marca que tiene una personalidad  tan fuerte y divertido que se identifica por sí sola, lo mismo entonces se ve en su nueva tienda -que en serio debe ser una de las más bellas que he visto en Panamá- ahora traen ropa de hombres, mujeres, accesorios y hasta de bebes :3

También está la de Billabong, que sinceramente no uso mucho porque en verdad odio la playa pero igual aprecio el esfuerzo que hace por que nos veamos lindos y cómodos mientras peleamos con los malditos mosquitos en la playa y nos quitamos la arena de los pies. 

La próxima semana les tengo una súper noticia que ya la bochinchié en Instagram y en Facebook pero no por acá asi que estén pendientes porque quiero que sean parte de todo lo que viene! Chauuuu!

It is so hard in today's society to be a kid with diverse interests, seriously, I sometimes feel like Lily Allen's 22 song has a little bit of me, but then I drink a glass of wine & it ceases to mess with my mind. With the time I've come to consider that partyboy/girl should be a profession, why not!? I mean you have to put up with so many hungover that building a church really looks like a small task. (not even counting that you have to wake up to actually work & finish homework) 

Partying has intensified now that all the brands & stores have started to open their flagships & stores, Desigual recently opened its Multiplaza store (which is actually one of the most gorg stores I've seen in Panama) with now menswear & babies clothes :3

Billabong also opened a new store (the same day as Desigual, I had to do a Jane by Design move to be able to drink correctly), I have to be sincere since I hate the beach & I don't wear Billabong that often, but they actually have clothes for the city & I really respect the effort they put into making us look cute & comfortable while fighting the mosquitoes & the itchy sand in our shoes while at the beach. 

Before I forget to tell you, next week I gotta tell you something very juicy, so stick around 'cause I want you to be part of this awesome shit :D Bae... Bae... Bae.. (Bon Qui Qui's voice)
