The New Uber Haus

Lejos quedaron los días en los que en Panamá solamente se podía ir a hacer shopping al mall. Si mal no me equivoco fue hace como cinco o cuatro años que el movimiento de boutiques en la ciudad comenzó a surgir - y esto no es shade hacia las boutiques que ya existían pero aquí me refiero a concept boutiques como de la que les vengo a hablar hoy.

De todas las tiendas de lifestyle que hay en Panamá probablemente una de mis favoritas es y siempre será Uber. Desde sus inicios en noviembre 2012 estas manes estaban claritas en lo que querían y en cómo iban a traducirlo al mercado, es muy difícil ahora llegar a cubrir casi todas las necesidades de tu clientela sin que se sienta forzado y en eso Uber ha sido pionera, hasta el punto que ya no es una boutique, es una casa “Uber Haus”.

Y si, es uno de los lugares más cools de la ciudad by far, siempre me encuentro gente cool y amigos con los que termino tomándome algo y echando cuentos mientras ellas/ellos o yo compramos ropa mega cool de marcas que van desde Mara Hoffman hasta las más famosas de Australia. Ahora es tiempo de evolucionar y para eso han añadido nuevos espacios de los que ya estoy enamorado:

Long gone are the days when the mall reigned over Panama’s shopping habits. If I’m right, it was four or five years ago when the first boutique movement started – and I’m not being shady to all of the other boutiques but we’re talking about lifestyle and concept boutiques.

Out of all of these new places, Uber is probably one of my favorites. Ever since it first opened in November 2012, these girls were on point when it came to giving the market what it lacked of, no one has ever fulfilled the need of their customers like Alessa, Em and Tere did, and are still doing. To the point where it is no longer Uber Shop, it became Uber Haus.

And yes, it is indeed one of the coolest places in the city, you’ll always find cool peeps and friends to hang out while you shop or grab something to eat/drink. Fashion-wise is also very ahead of the trends, especially in Panama, they sell from Mara Hoffman to the top Australian brands.

But not it’s time to evolve and new spaces have been added to the Uber family:

Welcome to the Chamber of Secrets

Finalmente la Cámara de los Secretos ha sido abierta.

El jueves pasado fui a la pre-apertura de una de las tiendas más esperadas por los y las panameñas, Forever 21. La apertura a todo público fue hoy sábado en la mañana y ya para cuando estén leyendo este blog post lo más probable es que se hayan vuelto locos o locas en la nueva tienda, y no las o los culpo, los precios están súper buenos y como todos sabíamos, es ropa que esta muy actualizada con lo que son las tendencias gringas, lo único malo es que no ha llegado la ropa de hombre pero por ahí escuché que llegará en más o menos 4 meses.

Siendo Forever 21 una tienda de fast-fashion lo único que les recomiendo es que sean muy sabios al comprar, puede que sea un arma de doble filo: ropa chévere a buenos precios, pero también estoy seguro que ese momento en que encuentras a alguien vistiendo lo mismo que tú estará pasando más a menudo y nadie quiere eso así que no sean fashion victims y compren con inteligencia.

No dejemos que el basilisco nos coma.

The Chamber of Secrets has been finally opened.

Last Thursday I was invited to the pre-opening party of the new Forever 21 store in Multiplaza. I got some cool stuff like a pullover and a bunch of accessories. By now you have probably visited the store since the official opening was this morning. By this time also you probably splurged a lot of money and I don’t blame you, we all love some Forever 21 in our lives but I just want to advice everyone who’s reading this to be careful, fast-fashion can be a double-edge sword, none of us want that oh-someone’s-wearing-the-same-shit-as-me moment nor be a fashion victim so shop intelligently. Do not let the basilisk fuck you over.

Bag Boy

La primer vez que supe de Billy Reid fue en el 2010 cuando el CFDA lo premió con el Best New Designer in America, este interés fue mayor cuando ese mismo año Billy ganó el CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund.

Siempre me gustó la estética de sus diseños, siendo un diseñador del Sur siempre ha mantenido un estilo “dandi sureño” que me da ganas ya sea de querer ser el que usa su ropa o ser el novio del que usa su ropa.

Lamentablemente mi cuenta de banco no me permite la primera opción y el destino no me ha dado la posibilidad de que la segunda opción se haga realidad. Por esta misma razón me puse muy feliz cuando me enteré a través de la gente de Coach Panamá que Billy haría una colaboración con Coach, así me sería posible por lo menos tener un pedacito de ese estilo de Louisiana que tanto me gusta de los diseños de Billy.

Con una colección que enfatiza los aspectos de “workwear” típicos de Billy por medio el uso de hardware y texturas intensas y la limpieza y sofisticación de Coach me decidí por este bolso de viaje en suede verde oliva con detalles de metal dorado que hacen perfecto match con el cuero chocolate, liso y brillante.

También quería aprovechar esta ocasión para mostrarle mi nuevo hairstyle que he bautizado como el “I Don’t Give A Fuck” porque en medio de todo el ajetreo en realidad me vale pupú mi cabello. Que tengan bonita semana!

The first time I heard of Billy Reid was in 2010 when he won the CDFA award for Best New Designer in America, I was hooked. That same year he even won the CDFA/Vogue Fashion Fund and I was re-hooked. He then collaborated with Levi’s in a capsule collection, which was only sold in Bloomingdale’s, I cried in a corner of my room because I couldn’t get anything.

There’s just something in his designs and his aesthetic of “Southern Dandy” that makes me want to either want to be the guy wearing his clothes or undress the guy wearing Billy Reid. Imagine then the excitement I felt when the Coach Panama team informed me they were going to have the exclusive Billy Reid x Coach collection in their Multiplaza store, I flipped out.

The collection is the perfect match between Billy’s vision of workwear-southern-gentleman-meets-Williamsburg-hipster and Coach’s sophistication. It was hard for me to decide on a bag but I went for this olive-green-suede travel bag, I really love the harmony of the rough suede with the golden hardware and the shiny leather.

Aside from the awesome bag I am also premiering something in the pictures which is my new “I Don’t Give A Fuck” hairdo, it’s called that way because I actually don’t give a fuck about my hair anymore ;)

#RadarNoir/ Malaika

Quiero comenzar la semana con una nueva sección en el blog, ésta se llama #RadarNoir y en ella me encargaré de traerle nuevos y curiosos lugares para comprar, comer, entretenerse, tomar, _______________ (inserta tú el verbo que desees), etc.

Para comenzar entonces me fui a Malaika, un nuevo concepto aquí en Panamá para cuando queremos comprar joyería y bisutería de una super buena calidad y con unos diseños tanto eclécticos como clásicos.
