Why Disney x Coach is a Great Idea

Antes de comenzar a leer este post please haz memoria y cuenta todos los ítems de Mickey Mouse que has tenido en toda tu vida. Probablemente cuando hagas la cuenta resulte más de dos o tres, enumera desde pastas de dientes, peluches, películas, libros de colorear, y todo artículo que haya hecho que en tu infancia soñaras con ir a Florida a conocer a este ratón. Y ahora es momento de que lo hagamos parte de nuestra adultez, porque, ¿por qué no?

Coach acaba de lanzar una mega colaboración con Disney que forma parte de una serie de proyectos exclusivos y de edición limitada cuyo objetivo es celebrar la cultura pop americana, así como los 75 años de la marca americana.

Before you start reading this post I will ask you to do some memory and think about all the Mickey Mouse items you've had throughout your life. Think about the toothpaste that you used when you were a child, or the doll you hugged to go to sleep faster, the VHS you watched with your sister/brother, or even the colouring books you took to school. All of those objects that just made you dream even harder on going to Florida to meet the famous mouse with the big ears. Well, now it's time for you to embrace him again and make him part of your adulthood because, why not dude?

Coach just launched a special collection with Disney and it's cute as fuck. The collab is part of a series of exclusive projects meant to celebrate American pop culture and to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the brand.

Street Walking

De regreso en Panamá después de dos semanas de viajes sin parar y lo único que quiero hacer es seguir caminando y descubriendo nuevas cosas. Boston con Converse fue uno de los mejores trips que he tenido hasta ahora y Medellín para #ColombiaModa ha sido una de esas experiencias a las que saltas sin ninguna expectativa y termina llenándote a mil. No me puedo quejar, me hace tan feliz mi trabajo y el hecho de que puedo compartir todo esto con ustedes es inigualable.

Back home in Panamá after two weeks of non-stop traveling and all I wanna do is keep on walking and discovering new things. Boston with Converse has been one of the best trips ever; Medellín for #ColombiaModa has been one of those experiences that you just jump to with absolutely no expectations and end up graciously happy and asking for more. I really cannot complain about what I do, I love my job so much and the fact that I can share all of it with you has no parallel.

Strolling Down Newbury St. #NBLAteam

Si eres de los/las que me sigue en Instagram (@MCQUEENISMYPAPI) ya sabes que esta última semana estuve de paseo por Boston gracias a la gente de New Balance, quienes eligieron a bloggers de todos los países de Latinoamérica para ir a conocer sus oficinas principales, fábricas, lugares favoritos e históricos de la ciudad aparte de shopping spots que más adelante les voy a compartir.

Aquí les muestro el outfit del primer día en Boston; se darán cuenta que no ando con mis New Balance pero como estaba lloviendo y nevando no quería que se me empaparan porque las quería usar el día siguiente, aquí les va :D

If you are one of those peeps that’s following me on Instagram you probably know that I spent the last week in Boston invited by the New Balance guys on a Latin-American bloggers trip so we could get to know their DNA, heritage, headquarters, future projects, factories and favorite spots in the city. We had an INCREDIBLE time, I met amazing bloggers from all over the continent who I now call friends and also, got a lot of free kicks for the season to come.

Random Encounters - Alexandra at West 34th Street

Say Hello From Up In Here!

Si hay algo que siempre había querido hacer en mi vida: ser host de algo. No me importaba si era de un baile típico en la Feria de la Naranja de Penonomé, un cumpleaños ajeno o un talk show a lo Chelsea Lately (I fucking love Chelsea Handler), ser host debe ser una de las profesiones más cools de todo el planeta, asi que cuando Coach me propuso ser el anfitrión del lanzamiento de su última colección de zapatos dije sí más rápido de lo que me acabo un shot de tequila.

Una tarde súper íntima con stylists, bloggers y personalidades relacionadas al micro-mundo de la moda panameña fue la forma perfecta de que todos pudiéramos salir con aunque sea un par nuevo de zapatos (hay gente que salió con dos, ajá!). Lo más guay de todo fue el hashtag que utilizamos para la ocasión: #CoachFromAbove, que nació de la manía que tenemos todos los Instagrammers de compartir nuestros zapatos del día desde la comodidad de ... nuestras caras? (no me digan que no lo han hecho porque no les creo ni el –A)

Los dejo entonces con fotitos del evento y de los zapatos de la colección, que decidí poner encima de las fotos de algunos de mis lugares favoritos de New York ;)

If there’s something I always wanted to do in my life was hosting something. Whether it was someone else’s bar mitzvah, a welcome home party for someone we both do not know or a talking show like Chelsea Lately (I really love Chelsea Handler); being host of something gets to the core of everything I look for in life, so it wasn’t a matter of doubt when Coach asked me to host the launch of their new show collection.

A very intimate and relaxed evening with stylists, fellow bloggers and personalities from the micro-world of Panamanian fashion was the perfect way for everyone to try on shoes, talk about who’s gotten fatter or thinner, and sip delicious cocktails made with Perrier. The best thing was the hashtag used for the afternoon: #CoachFromAbove, inspired by our manic obsession of documenting our outfits and shoes of the day from the closeness of our ... faces? (Don’t tell me you haven’t snapped one of those Instagram pics because you know you’d be lying).

So, I’m gonna shut my mouth and leave you with some of the photos from the event and my favorite shoes from the collection, which I put against some of my favorite NY places ;)

Bag Boy

La primer vez que supe de Billy Reid fue en el 2010 cuando el CFDA lo premió con el Best New Designer in America, este interés fue mayor cuando ese mismo año Billy ganó el CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund.

Siempre me gustó la estética de sus diseños, siendo un diseñador del Sur siempre ha mantenido un estilo “dandi sureño” que me da ganas ya sea de querer ser el que usa su ropa o ser el novio del que usa su ropa.

Lamentablemente mi cuenta de banco no me permite la primera opción y el destino no me ha dado la posibilidad de que la segunda opción se haga realidad. Por esta misma razón me puse muy feliz cuando me enteré a través de la gente de Coach Panamá que Billy haría una colaboración con Coach, así me sería posible por lo menos tener un pedacito de ese estilo de Louisiana que tanto me gusta de los diseños de Billy.

Con una colección que enfatiza los aspectos de “workwear” típicos de Billy por medio el uso de hardware y texturas intensas y la limpieza y sofisticación de Coach me decidí por este bolso de viaje en suede verde oliva con detalles de metal dorado que hacen perfecto match con el cuero chocolate, liso y brillante.

También quería aprovechar esta ocasión para mostrarle mi nuevo hairstyle que he bautizado como el “I Don’t Give A Fuck” porque en medio de todo el ajetreo en realidad me vale pupú mi cabello. Que tengan bonita semana!

The first time I heard of Billy Reid was in 2010 when he won the CDFA award for Best New Designer in America, I was hooked. That same year he even won the CDFA/Vogue Fashion Fund and I was re-hooked. He then collaborated with Levi’s in a capsule collection, which was only sold in Bloomingdale’s, I cried in a corner of my room because I couldn’t get anything.

There’s just something in his designs and his aesthetic of “Southern Dandy” that makes me want to either want to be the guy wearing his clothes or undress the guy wearing Billy Reid. Imagine then the excitement I felt when the Coach Panama team informed me they were going to have the exclusive Billy Reid x Coach collection in their Multiplaza store, I flipped out.

The collection is the perfect match between Billy’s vision of workwear-southern-gentleman-meets-Williamsburg-hipster and Coach’s sophistication. It was hard for me to decide on a bag but I went for this olive-green-suede travel bag, I really love the harmony of the rough suede with the golden hardware and the shiny leather.

Aside from the awesome bag I am also premiering something in the pictures which is my new “I Don’t Give A Fuck” hairdo, it’s called that way because I actually don’t give a fuck about my hair anymore ;)
