Donatella in 1993

Uno de mis dúos favoritos siempre ha sido Andrea Claus y Antonio Feuillebois de 1993. Desde sus comienzos han tenido muy clara cuál sería su estética y se han mantenido fieles a ella más no han cesado de evolucionar: han pasado de una colección sencilla basada solo en serigrafía de estampados propios a colecciones como la que presentaron el pasado marzo en MACRO la cual llevaba más detalles de lo normal (aplicaciones, trabajo de plumas, innovación con plástico, estoperoles, etc.).

Para esta misma cole 1993 tomó como sujeto el Miami de los 90’s, su decadente glamur y la colorida delincuencia, los diseños tan peculiares del art deco, sus matices y formas. Igualmente basada en fondos de clóset esta fue su colección más compleja hasta la fecha.

One of my favorite design duos from Panama has to be Andrea Claus and Antonio Feuillebois from 1993. Even from their beginnings, their aesthetic has always been constant and in evolution: their first collection, while very simple in cuts and shapes was based on printing and serigraph; the latter – presented last March during MACRO – had more depth in construction, implementing the use of beadings, embroidery, clothing in plastic, feather work and their usual and peculiar prints.

Inspired in 90’s Miami, 1993 developed a collection that got us through the decadent glamour, the colorful delinquency (Miami Vice, Magnum P.I and Hawaii 5.0), the art deco architecture, its shades and lines. With the same basic pieces, this has to be their most complex collection to date.

Beginnings and Closures

Esta semana ha sido horrible. Normalmente no me quejo porque my life motto siempre tiene que ver con ver la vida del ángulo colorido pero el cierre de la última edición de GOGO Magazine (que by the way ya está online y pueden visitar en holaGOGO.com) ha sido muy complicado pero estoy muy feliz con el resultado final, ya pronto lo verán!

Con todo y eso, en uno de mis tiempos medio libres en la oficina saqué oportunidad  de sacar unas fotos de outfit para que no se olviden de mi cara. También me gustaría compartirles que estoy siendo parte de un montón de proyectos externos de los que me encantaría formaran parte, pero para eso tenemos que mantenernos comunicados por las redes sociales, ya sea Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr o Snapchat, mándenme  sus mensajes y compártanme en lo que andan ustedes, ¿no es esa la parte divertida de la vida moderna?

This week’s been a total bitch to me. Normally I don’t like to complain about anything because you know… you have to see life from the bright side but man what a whirlwind this week’s been. Closing GOGO Magazine’s next issue was so hard (oh by the way, we are now online at holaGOGO.com so visit us!) but the final result brings nothing more than smiles to my face, and that’s the good thing about doing what you really love to do: no matter how hard it will take you to get there, the final goal always makes it up.

Luckily, I made a little gap between meetings and writing sessions to take some pictures just so you don’t forget my fat face –actually not fat at all. I’d like to also remind you that social media are actually a thing if you haven’t heard and we can be in contact and know about each other’s lives or just like mingle through the magical tap of our fingers; I’ve been doing a lot and it would be cool if you are part of it so find me on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr… just don’t be a creep ;)

#FashionGlobeTrotter Mustard & Ketchup

Este es el segundo año consecutivo que asisto a Paris Fashion Week y déjenme decirles que si hay un show que siempre me agua los ojos es el de Louis Vuitton. Este año Nicolás Ghesquiére decidió mostrar su colección SS15 en el recién inaugurado edificio de la Fondation Louis Vuitton diseñado por Frank Ghery (en serio, uno de los edificios más increíbles que he visto). Obviamente, para una ocasión como esta es imperativo vestir algo edgy, cómodo, fashion-forward pero igual sencillo, pero que deje a los demás intrigados por más, suerte fue la mía de entonces conocer a Edeline Lee, una de mis diseñadoras favoritas de Londres quien me vistió de cuello hasta tobillos con su colección SS15, la que presentó en Somersert House en London Fashion Week. Antes que se hiciera tarde les quise mostrar el look completo, espero les guste y sino, bueno, váyase a comer un pedazo de limón.

This is my second year in a row attending the big leagues of fashion aka Paris Fashion Week (I’m sure not even Alex Rodríguez would be up for this game). If there’s one show that always moves me and brings kind of tears to my eyes is the Louis Vuitton show (I hope those were some LV branded tears at least); this year Nico Ghésquiere –the one’s closet to always call him Nico, hello!- decided to show his SS15 at the mint new Fondation Louis Vuitton, a building that seriously has got to be one of the most beautiful pieces of architecture that I’ve ever seen. Obviously, once I knew I was invited to this show all I could think was “what the fuck am I gonna wear?”, I needed something fashion-forward yet sensible and nonchalant, something that could let other dream but not fall asleep, and something that could translate well in Street-style pictures (I mean duh! You gotta milk the cow if you want to make it into Le21éme!), luckily for me, while I was in London I met the work of the amazing Edeline Lee, a designer that knows all about showstoppig-comfortable-edgy designs. Before it was too late –it is never too late- here’s the head-to-ankle look from her SS15 collection shown at Somerset House London; hope you like it, and if you don’t, well it is yours to miss :D

A Very Vogue Outfit.

Si vives en la ciudad de Panamá y estas interesado en la moda debes estar anuente que esta semana fue dedicada enteramente al equipo de Vogue Latinoamérica que estuvo de visita en nuestra ciudad, en caso que no lo supiste para eso mejor múdate a una islita remota en medio del Archipiélago de las Perlas – just kidding. ;)

Pero no importa, la cosa es que vinieron, visitaron, tomaron y se fueron. Fue una semana muy divertida en la que conocimos mucha gente interesante. Ahorita mismo estoy en New York City preparándome para New York Fashion Week pero antes que comience quería compartirles mi outfit para la fiesta de Vogue.

No hay nada más Vogue que ... Vogue de Madonna. Por eso decidí irme por un look totalmente en negro de Versace porque digo... el video de Madonna es en blanco y negro y es extremadamente chic y sexy y todos los adjetivos que le quieras poner, siempre y cuando sean buenos. Y Versace porque simplemente siento una buena conexión con esa marca, es sexy y elegante. No me pude sentir mejor con mi outfit.

Pero como el outfit era muy monocromático decidí accesorizarlo con las dos tendencias en accesorios que más están pegadas: midrings & los earcuffs. Definitivamente un outfit que repetiría!

As I said, Kelly Talamas (Vogue Latam’s Editor in Chief, in case you want to know more about her check my last blog post with an interview with her).

I am now in New York City getting ready for New York Fashion Week but I really wanted to share with you what I wore to the exclusive Vogue party last Thursday (I think it was Thursday, if it wasn’t Thursday omit my stupidity). My inspiration for the outfit (this sounds so fuckin cliché) was Madonna’s Vogue video – DUH!. I chose a black on black on black outfit by Versace which I LOVED, I couldn’t have been happier with it.

Since it was a plain black canvas I decided to accessorize It with two of the coolest accessories trends right now: earcuffs & midrings. Definitely an outfit I would repeat!

If I Were A Boy

Este domingo celebramos en Panamá el Día del Niño y ese mismo día me di cuenta de cuanto los tiempos han cambiado. En mis tiempo el Día del Niño comenzaba levantándome temprano para ir a la escuela con el noticiero de canal 13 de la mañana, dirigido por niños, en la escuela habían shows de Pepina y Tortón todo el día en el que regalaban de todo y no había clases en todo el día.

Hoy en día, ser tío me ha permitido ver que coleccionar los juguetitos de la Cajita Feliz de McDonald’s es algo del pasado, ahora se coleccionan badges en los juegos del iTunes store y que los legos han sido reemplazados por iPads, me da cierta tristeza recordar mis años mozos (estoy hablando como un fokin viejo cuando en verdad tengo 21 años ahhaahaha) pero no puedo evitar sentir nostalgia por esos días en los que las mangas y las novelas mexicanas de adolescentes hacían mi día.

Tampoco puedo evitar confesar mi poca noción de estilo y moda que tuve durante mi niñez y parte de mi adolescencia, parte de eso estoy seguro fue consecuencia de mi obesidad (era una albóndiga) infantil.

Pero como dice el dicho, el tiempo cambia a la gente y en este post quiero hacer un viaje en el tiempo y re-hacer lo que se pudo haber enmendado, así que he hecho tres look que yo me hubiera puesto de niño si hubiera tenido un cerebro decente para razonar y tres looks que definitivamente me pondría ahora que tengo 21, gracias a Dios y a Madonna por la pubertad!

This past Sunday we celebrated Children’s Day here in Panama, that day was also the day I realized how time changes things. When I was a kid Children’s Day was such an occasion, we would wake up really early in the morning to go to school & the thrill of watching the morning news being anchored by kids our age would pumped us up to school.

At school clown & magic shows would be prepared for the whole day where ice cream & hot dogs would be served for us so we could get fat easily.

These days I’ve grown to be an excellent uncle (and someday father) & it has really opened up my eyes to see how this new generation is growing. It makes me kind of sad to see how the fun of collecting the toys from the McDonald’s Happy Meals has been thrown away by collecting badges in Angry Birds & how completing coloring books has been replaced by iPads, I cannot help but feel nostalgia for my old pre-pubescent days.

One thing I don’t feel nostalgic for is my early sense of style, I was a pile of poop. I blame part of it to my overweight during child years & my geeky demeanor of only reading books & skipping gym class.

But thank God & Madonna time changes people, it really does & as Darwing once realized, humans evolve with it. That’s why I want this post to be a way to amend my kid self with 3 outfits I would have worn if I haven’t had such an inane brain. I also made up 3 looks that I would definitely wear now that I’m 21, let’s just all say a big thank you to puberty!
