Calvin Klein's American Classics Campaign

Previously known as Calvin Klein Collection, Calvin Klein 205W39NYC presents its Fall/Winter 2017 campaign. Shot by Willy Vandeperre, the collection is a representation of US pragmatism, emphasizing the traditions of the brand; the campaign celebrates the classic and the casual, while articulating what is to come, for both women and men.

The collection is a celebration of this diversity, the diversity of America itself.

“It reflects the environment,” says Raf Simons. “All of these different people with different styles and dress codes. It’s the future, the past, Art Deco, the city, the American West…all of these things and none of these things. Not one era, not one thing, not one look. It is the coming together of different characters and different individuals, just like America itself. It is the unique beauty and emotion of America.”

Raf Simons is Not the New Creative Director of Calvin Klein

“A new Brand direction will ultimately follow one creative vision across all categories of the business,” intended the company back in April when Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli where exited from their positions as CDs of men’s and women’s.

Three months later –supposedly due to his non-compete contract that finalized with LVMH at the end of this July – the rumored was confirmed: Raf Simons is the boss chez Calvin Klein.

Raf, who exactly four years ago was commencing his stance at Dior (abrupt move that was documented in the amazing Frédéric Tcheng documentary Dior & I, available on Netflix) on July 2012, will be responsible for everything that flags the CK logo: from master-minding Calvin Klein Collection, Platinum, Calvin Klein, Jeans, Underwear, Home, fragrances, all the marketing strategies, global communications… he will even be in charge of the hairstyle the cashier of your nearest boutique will be donning. According to reports, Raf’s salary per year will be $18 million dollars.

Nevertheless, his official charge is not as Creative Director, and that changes things.

I Kate Moss in my Calvins

How many of us still remembers those days when Calvin Klein reigned the ad campaign game. Even for me - a small kid in tropical Panama - it was hard to escape from Marky Mark's hard-rock abs/bulge and Kate Moss' naive sex-appeal under Steven Meisel's lens. It was all over newspapers, magazines and even TV. No matter what, Calvin made sure those images got stuck inside our heads.

And now, after almost two decades of underwear and jeans, Calvin Klein revindicates himself as an image maker with his Autumn/Winter 2016 campaign which stars the one and only: Miss Kate Moss, along with a legion of characters like Frank Ocean, Zoë Kravitz, Margot Robbie, Young Thug, Bella Hadid, the artist G.E.M., the ever amazing Grace Coddington, and profesional and urban models.
