The First Panama Fashion Film Festival

Por primera vez Panamá tendrá un festival de cortometrajes exclusivamente dedicado a la estética de la moda. El próximo 30 de septiembre y 1 de octubre en el Ateneo de la Ciudad del Saber la muestra de diversos diseñadores, creativos, cineastas y estudiantes será presentada al mundo. “Nuestra meta es mostrar, si es posible, treinta films; el último objetivo sería presentar estas muestras al público en las salas de cine de la ciudad”, me explicaba Marie Claire Fontaine en la conferencia de prensa este pasado 21 de junio.

Ideado para promover el uso de nuevos formatos en la comunicación de moda, el Panama Fashion Film Festival sería una plataforma más para incentivar la producción de piezas audiovisuales, lo que potencialmente le permitirá al país fortalecer la industria y la creación de contenidos innovadores en formatos que actualmente son los más relevantes en cualquier plataforma digital existente.

Ahora, si estas interesado/a en participar tienes que comenzar prácticamente ayer ya que la convocatoria estará abierta hasta el próximo 10 de septiembre, cada cortometraje luego será evaluado por el equipo de producción y por un jurado idóneo para finalmente formar la selección oficial del festival.

Los lineamientos son más o menos abiertos: cada corto deberá durar entre tres y cinco minutos, y obviamente tener un alto grado de estética, se puede optar en presentar ángulos comerciales así como más abstractos; aún no se ha aclarado si el género de documental está estipulado. Cae de su peso que el contenido tiene que ser original (tanto el visual como el audio); como buen filme de moda tiene que ser notorio en cuanto al styling y el maquillaje y, en mi opinión, tener una narrativa (no soporto los cortos que se basan solo en vestidos que vuelan con brisas artificiales, o los que son solo close-ups de belleza). Debe ser una propuesta.

Como parte de los premios, los cortos ganadores tendrán la posibilidad de participar para ser proyectados en diferentes festivales internacionales con quienes hemos establecido alianzas estratégicas como Madrid Fashion Film Festival, Buenos Aires International Fashion Film Festival, México Fashion Film Festival, Santiago International Fashion Film Festival.

For the first time Panama is having a Film Festival entirely dedicated to the aesthetic of fashion. This September 30^th and October 1^st the Ateneo in the City of Knowledge will host the visual projects of designers, creative, filmmakers and students. “Our goal is to recollect at least thirty shortfilms; our long-term goal would be to project them in every movie theater in the country,” explained Marie Claire Fontaine at the press conference the past Tuesday.

Organized to promote new formats inside the communication of fashion, the Panama Fashion Film Festival will act as a platform to propel the production of audiovisual pieces, which will potentially strengthen our industry, as well as the young film industry in our country.

If you are interested in being one of the featured createurs you should have started working basically last week: submission calls are gonna be open until September 10^th. Each submission will be then evaluated by the production team, as well as a jury that will after shape the official selection for the festival.

Guidelines are very simple: each film should last between three and five minutes, it obviously has to showcase a high aesthetic level, you can opt for a commercial appeal as well as an artistic one; fashion documentaries have not yet been assessed by the organization. It’s a given that the content must be original (visual as well as audible), styling and beauty should be priorities and, in my opinion, every film should carry a narrative from beginning until the end, I really cannot stand “fashion films” with models just moving fabrics or making beauty close-ups.

One of the most important things about participating is the Windows that it will open: the winners will be immediately included in the lineup of big festivals such as the Madrid Fashion Film Festival. Other cities the like of Buenos Aires, Mexico and Santiago have also joined forces.
