Behind Señorita Panamá 2016

Viniendo de una industria en la que entre más flaca y más natural sea el look de una mujer mayor apreciación se le tiene, el mundo de las misses siempre ha sido un misterio.

Amazonas despampanantes con senos del tamaño de sus cabezas, narices más anguladas que una obra de Fi y rulos más ondulados que un edificio de Zaha Hadid, este ha sido el estándar que ha perdurado en nuestro país por mucho tiempo ya.

Es por eso que mi atención fue inmediatamente captada cuando recibí la noticia que Justine Pasek, la única Miss Universo panameña hasta la fecha, y Cesar Anel Rodríguez tomarían el control de la organización de Señorita Panamá (previamente conocido como Miss Panamá), un cambio para bien se notaba hasta en la invitación a la noche de gala: sobria, elegante y sofisticada.

Con muy poco tiempo para seleccionar a una ganadora de todas las concursantes, y con menos aún para preparar a la misma para el certamen de Miss Universo que se celebrará en diciembre, la organización previamente había escogido la representante panameña y a la vez hecho un casting para establecer las concursantes que estarán participando en la versión 2017.

Es por eso que el pasado martes 26 de abril organizaron –en tan solo ocho días- una gala para presentar al mundo a la nueva Señorita Panamá 2016: Keity Mendieta. Una muchacha increíblemente hermosa que conocí hace ya años cuando la paré en la calle para tomarle una foto a su look y luego cuando la fotografié en el backstage del MBFWPdos años atrás.

La organización me invitó a fotografiar el backstage de la gala y aquí les comparto mis tomas favoritas ;)

Coming from an industry where the more natural and sophisticated the look of a woman is the more appreciated she is, I’ve always found the world of pageant queens a Little bit odd.

Stunning glamazons with boobs that are the size of their own heads, noses that are shaped like a Mondrian painting and curls bigger than a Zaha Hadid masterpiece, this has been the standard of beauty that has ruled our culture for many years now.

Surprised was I when I received the news that Justine Pasek, the only Panamanian woman who has earned the Miss Universe title, and Cesar Anel Rodríguez were taking over the organization of the new Señorita Panamá (formerly known as Miss Panamá); changes were noted at first glance, even the invitation had a flair of elegance and sophistication.

With little time to choose a winner from all the contestants, and even less time to prepare her for the Miss Universe contest on December, the organization casted several girls for the next year version and selected our representative who was presented to the world in a sumptuous gala last Tuesday.

Keity Mendieta is one of the most gorgeous girls I’ve ever met. I remember when I stopped her on the streets to take a picture of her outfit a while ago, and then photographed her backstage at the MBFWP 2014.

This year the organization invited me to photograph the behind the scenes of the presentation gala and here I share my favorite moments, hope you enjoy ;)
