A Date with Naeem

   

Uno de esos nombres que tiene a todos mordiéndose las uñas es Naeem Khan, quién ha sido invitado especialmente por la gente de United Way para recaudar fondo para sus proyectos educativos.

Pero para que tengan un bigger picture de quién es el Sr. Khan les voy a contar un poco de él:

Nacido en India, Naeem creció obviamente rodeado de la belleza exuberante de este país: su arquitectura y su historia. Una mezcla de todas estas influencias fue la que le concedió todo el conocimiento que tiene sobre textiles. Otros que influenciaron mucho a Naeem fueron su padre y su bisabuelo, quienes son súper conocidos en India por vestir a la realeza.

Ya en su adolescencia Naeem se mudo a los States y trabajó para Halston, donde absorbió todo el modernismo y los secretos del buen drapeo, hacer buenos cortes y cómo crear siluetas limpias, elegantes y perennes. Hasta el Sol de hoy, sus diseños abrazan este ethos de glamour, feminidad y eterna belleza.

Aparte de ser visualmente hermosas, sus piezas se caracterizan por tener un trabajo a mano exquisito –muchas veces con bastante embroideries- hecho por artesanos que en casos han trabajado para grandes casas como Chanel o Valentino. Los textiles que usa Naeem son casi en su totalidad Italianos, Franceses y Españoles, que son después trabajados en su atelier en New York.

Otro gran fun fact sobre Naeem es que es un miembro activo del CFDA y ha vestido a gay divas de la talla de Liz Taylor y Liza Minelli. Por mi parte, con solo eso ya se ganó mi corazón.

This year the MBFWP organization has stepped it up a notch and has prepared such an exciting lineup of international designers that has left everyone bitting their nails for it to begin.

One of those names is Naeem Khan, who has been invited by United Ways to raise funds for their educational programs.

Now, in order to really enjoy de collection you have to see the big picture here, and that picture is actually a text that I’ve kindly prepared for you to know who Naeem is (I love how I say Naeem like he’s my BFF from high school):

Naeem was born in India and grew up surrounded by the beauty of its culture, architecture and history. These influences helped cultivate his vast knowledge of textiles under the watchful eyes of his grandfather and father, both well-known in India for designing clothing for Indian royalty.

When he was a teen Khan moved to the States and apprenticed for Halston, where he absorbed his modernism, and the secrets of draping and cutting fabric to create clean, elegant, and timeless silhouettes.

Beyond being beautiful, Khan’s other trademark is the impeccable quality of his clothing. The pieces typically feature exquisite hand-embroidery, done
by artisans who have also created sumptuous embroidery for the world’s top fashion houses, such as Chanel and Valentino, for decades. For Khan’s designs, this lavish detailing is put onto the finest fabrics from Italy, France, and Spain which are then finished at his expansive New York atelier.

Naeem is also an active member of the CFDA and has designed for gay divas like Elizabeth Taylor and Liza Minnelli. I mean seriously, Liza has worn him, that pretty much wins my heart.
