Hace un tiempito ya acompañé a mi amiga Liz a que se cortara el cabello. Ese día sinceramente no me sentía para nada bien y lo único que quería era un recinto en donde echarme a dormir por mil años, suerte la mía era que Liz no iba a cortarse el cabello a cualquier lugar.

Si estas en la industria de la moda el apellido Marroquin de seguro no te suena extraño; Estuardo Marroquin se ha logrado establecer como uno de los más high-end hair stylists aquí en Panamá y a la misma vez una de las personas más queridas en el círculo fashion panameño.

Estuardo ha trabajado para algunas de las revistas más conocidas de Panamá tales como Mía, Ocean Drive Panamá y ha también trabajado para las dos más grandes agencias de modelaje de Panama, Physical Models y Wilhelmina Panama Talents así que no era de esperar que Estu, como le llamamos, abriera su propio studio.

A while ago my friend Liz asked me to accompany her to get her hair cut & re styled. To be honest I was not in good health shape & all I wanted was to lay down somewhere flat & just sleep for a thousand years, luckily for me Liz was not going to any hair salon.

If you are somehow related to the Panamanian fashion industry the surname Marroquin is now new to you; Estuardo Marroquin has found his way through the busy crowd & has established himself as one of the highest-end hairstylist in the country, not even mentioning that he is one of the warmest & loved guys in Panama’s fashion circle.

Obviously, Estuardo didn’t reach this status overnight, he has worked for some of the most known magazine in Panama such as Mia or Ocean Drive, he has also done a lot of work for the two biggest model agencies, Physical Models & Wilhelmina Panama Talents, so it was not unexpected that he would open his own studio in the middle of the hazy city, Studio Marroquin.

Y digo suerte la mía porque éste no es tu típico salón en el que los ruidos de los blowers y del cuchicheo de las mujeres en espera de sus keratinas y relajantes te puede llegar a enervar (especialmente si es un domingo por la noche), el ambiente en Studio Marroquin es más parecido a un templo budista en medio de los Himalayas, sólo que en esta ocasión está en medio de Obarrio.

Así fue como yo, mientras atendían a Liz disfrute de un masaje y de lo que llamo “el Combo Deluxe”, un buen libro y una tacita de café o té y silencio.

Y estoy seguro que muchos ya están hartos de siempre escuchar la paja que dice “nuestro ______________ (llénenlo con cualquier servicio quieran: hotel, tienda, discoteca, sex shop, w/e) le ofrecerá la experiencia completa, una experiencia que complacerá todos sus sentidos” en todas las publicidades que leemos, pero esta vez, les aseguro que tendrán la tan usada “experiencia completa”.

And maybe, just maybe, if you were wondering about my uneasy state of hungoverness with which I woke up that day, it found a cathartic solution. With the fear of stumbling across a hair salon with all the noise blowers & gossipy women make surprise for me was that Studio Marroquin resembled, at least for me, a Buddhist temple in the middle of the Himalayas (note: I’ve never been there, these are just movie clichés that I have in my mind, maybe the monks at the Himalayas are making Harlem Shake videos all day long, who knows).

That’s how I ended up getting a massage & the Deluxe Combo of a great book & a cup of coffee, because at Studio Marroquin they will always want to pamper you, I felt like the fuckin Royal Baby.
