Pen & Paper/ The Candy

ph. Abdelitoh Troy

//////////////////////////////////

Let’s start this letter by stating clearly that nothing that has the word “candy” included in its name (except for Brooke Candy) it’s in my book because it immediately tells me there are calories included.

In this edition of Pen & Paper I’m gonna focus all of my strength in something that has evolved into becoming one of the deadbeats of today’s fashion, the Candy Furla Bag:

Una sola palabra: fat.

Just one word: fat.

//////////////////////////////////

“Dear Candy Furla Bag, like any other fashion hot item you started your climb to fame with tenacity & a great feeling about yourself, I remember like it was yesterday when some girls were the privileged one to first use you in their outfits, whether it was because they had the money or they bought you abroad I really don’t give a fuck but little by little, step by step you started to slip into the closets of every woman: receptionists, CEO, lawyer, actress and bartender, I even saw you once in the arm of a 15 year old at my little niece’s ballet presentation.

You’ve done it well; I bet you feel good about yourself. I have to really give you props for doing the Madonna strategy of reinventing yourself, I mean, we’ve been participants of every single phase of your teenage years: dull simple colors, sassy snakeskin, gay disco diva full of glitter channeling Diana Ross at Studio 54 and even Debbie Harry punk with studs and shit.

I mean, there are so many gorgeous bags at Furla & we’re fucking wasting time with a bag called Candy.

But recently it has been very clear to me that you’ve been channeling something of which I do not approve: Jessica Simpson. You may ask me why, and I would then answer you this: you are throwing fucking shade on your Furla sisters. Let’s call them the Ashlees and you are the annoying blond who’s everyone’s favorite although the other one are so more quiche (I’ve been watching Ja’mie: Private School Girl in which quiche means: “quiche means a step above hot, to the point where I wanna have sex with you.), than you, and you know what? I AM FUCKING DONE WITH YOU.

Starting from today I won’t tolerate your fatness (yes, you are actually kind of fat) and I won’t feel sorry for the girls who have spent $250 freaking dollars to have you on their arms.

For that I dedicate this song to you:“

Pen & Paper: Neons

A while ago a song that many loved & many hated surfaced the net, it was sung & danced by a Korean artist called PSY, it didn’t take long for the song to become a worldwide hit that was literally everywhere: newspapers, Internet, radio, television, even Madonna had PSY invited to her MSG concert (totes unchic Madonna).

It was then when the song also started to be hated by everyone (even my mom was sick & tired of it -just a sidenote, my mom doesn’t even know how to use Whatsapp.) I recall the willing to stab my own brain with an ice picker everytime I heard the song on the radio/television.

So in my intent to make this letter a little bit more interesting & to make myself sound more masterful I used Gangnam Style as an analogy of the real star of this Pen & Paper post: the neons.

Just as PSY with his Gangnam Style neons started off as a cute trend that was seen in boys & girls on the streets, it was actually kind of stylish (if used in a measured way). You could spot girls with their heels, blouses, bags & mini audiéres all in fluorescent tones; they looked like cute modern versions of the Party Monsters from the late 80s-early-90s New York club party scene.

But suddenly, following the same footsteps as PSY, neons went from trendy to fucking annoying, soon all those cute girls that sported neons as a human being morphed into beasts that resembled a traffic cone after it took the same medicine as Godzilla. While we all know fashion’s all about taking risks, there are some risks that’d better be left alone.

Nowadays it is practically impossible for me to see another person wearing something neon related without the fear of suffering a stroke & to take ends meet that’s pretty much my everyday story because everyone is still wearing the shit out of the fucking neons even though it is so 4 seasons ago.

And please don’t take this letter the wrong way, no, I’m not taking advantage of this opportunity to release all of the fury I have towards NBC for cancelling The New Normal & Smash (just FYI, the entire gay community is in mourning & pain) and no, I am not drunk while writing this, I am actually trying to do a good deed for the society, I am using this channel to spread a message of hope for the ones who know that fluorescent shades are so not cool, for that & all, #FuckNeons2013, we can do it!
