Asian Invasion

.........................................................

I don't know if you have noticed but the fashion world has been overwhelmed with a new generation of models & designers that have a common element, their origins. The Asiatic culture is well known for its attention to details, discipline & incredible creativity, boldness, individuality & inventiveness. All of these characteristics are present in the work of some designers, such as: Phillip Lim, Derek Lam, Alexander Wang, Prabal Gurung, etc.

On the other side, a new legion of models & gazels has crowded the runways with their petite silhouette, delicate bone structure & careless debonair.

The first time I heard of one of these designers was when Thakoon Panichgul made his appearance in The September Issue, followed by his GAP collaboration. This past year (2010), Jason Wu & Richard Chai were awarded at the CFDA Fashion Awards, & I think that was some sort of their way of telling "we are here to stay", well, I have no problem with that, as long as they keep making those beautiful clothes I'm delighted to see & maybe in the near future, buy!

EDITOR'S NOTE:

Yesterday (Jan 15th), the Ermenegildo Zegna show was filled with the Asian vibe, the whole collection was inspired by Marco Polo, the first European to get to Asia, the backdrop was designed by James Lima, a visual consultant for Avatar (the James Cameron movie), it was entitled In The Mood For China, due to Zegna's new target, the eastern market, specially Shangai.

Here is the video, enjoy :)
